How to set up parental controls for Android phones and iPhone apps - #WakeUpWednesday

NOS-Logo-Trademark-WuW.png

Information from National Online Safety

Some adults tend to ignore the parental controls on their smartphone, because they expect them to be hard to understand and complicated to set up – but actually it’s surprisingly simple! This #WakeUpWednesday, we’ve produced step-by-step guides to help parents adjust these settings to block unsuitable games and apps from their child’s iPhone or Android smartphones.Whether a young person plays games and enjoys apps on their own phone or borrows a family member’s, it’s worth spending some time reviewing the parental controls on that device. Our guides walk you through the process, to help reduce the chances of children downloading and using apps or games which aren’t appropriate for their age group.

We were very lucky last week to have a visit from Pete Howard from the Community Church. He is our first assembly visitor in such a long time and we loved having him in. He always brings his guitar and a little bit of magic, which the children really enjoy. We sang, had fun and reflected on the message of kindness. We can't wait until he visits us again.

Important changes to collection arrangements, by Mrs Muddy

Date: 1st Sep 2021 @ 8:02pm

Dear Parents & Carers,

Today I reviewed our drop off and pick up arrangements with the staff who know our school best. Now that we are no longer staggering finish times it was felt that if all classes left at the same time at the end of the day, it would inevitably lead to congestion on the 'donkey path'. In order to reduce this number, the following arrangements have been made with regards to collecting your child at the end of the day:

Y2 will leave via the main gate near the Asda carpark

Y3 will leave via the small gate opposite the Annexe near the Asda carpark

Y4 will leave via the Fairview Avenue gate by the school carpark

Y5 will leave via the Fairview Avenue gate by the school carpark

Y6 will leave by the gate and exit most convenient to them as many walk home unaccompanied.

If you usually park on the Asda carpark, but your child is now leaving via the Fairview Avenue gate, you can arrange for your child to meet you near to the park as hopefully by the time your child has walked round, the congestion should have eased.

Hopefully this plan will work for everybody. It will be monitored and reviewed as necessary.

Many thanks for patience and understanding with drop off and collection arrangements to date as I appreciate there have been numerous changes.

New Term Information, by Mrs Muddy

Date: 31st Aug 2021 @ 9:03pm

Dear Parents & Carers,
I hope you’ve all had a happy and healthy summer break but that you’re now ready for school to resume!
I am hoping that this academic year will be more like school years used to be pre-covid, with a full calendar of events , but as a school we will continue to review the pandemic measures in place and reduce these tentatively following the guidance from the DfE and the Local authority. For me, the ultimate goal is to have a year of uninterrupted learning with the whole community remaining safe. Many changes have already been communicated via the newsletter, but I’m sure some reminders would be welcome.

Latest covid guidance
The guidance that came out from the DfE on 16.8.21 was clear in that:
• Pupils do not need to isolate UNLESS they test positive for Covid-19
• Pupils no longer have to be kept in bubbles
• Whole school assemblies for pupils can resume
• Pupils don’t have to be segregated at lunch and break times

As a school we welcome the reduction in measures and hope that pupils will be able to have a higher attendance record, without the need for periods of isolation . We will be maintaining the routines of hand washing, good basic hygiene , additional cleaning, the use of sanitiser and the practice of keeping occupied spaces well ventilated. The usual practice of in-forming the office of any pupil absence still applies and if messages could be left prior to the start of the school day, this would be appreciated.

New start and finish times:
Reception , Year 1 and Year 2 : 8.50—3.05
Years 3-6 : 8.45—3.00
The procedure for drop off and collection will be the same as last year, i.e. dropping off and collecting from the gates. This will be reviewed at October half term.

PE kits
Please remember on PE days, children should come dressed in PE kit., including trainers There will be no PE this week and PE days will be communicated to pupils this week and sent out to parents by Friday.

Pencil cases & stationery, toys & gadgets
As we are maintaining our schedule of cleaning throughout the school day, it helps enormously when personal belongings are kept to a minimum. Therefore we ask that no items such as pop-its and gadgets are brought into school. All stationery materials needed by pupils will be provided by the school. Thank you for your understanding with this.

I look forward to welcoming back your children on Thursday

Kind Regards

Rachel Woollam

The Art of Brilliance, by Mrs Woollam

Date: 22nd May 2021 @ 4:34pm

The children in Years 3,4 and 5 have been learning all about positive thinking over the past couple of weeks. Andy Cope (author of the Spy Dog books), has been busy inspiring our pupils and staff into thinking about the positives in life rather than focusing on the negatives. We discovered that actually, no matter how bleak the last couple of years have been, we have plenty to be grateful for.
