Visit from Status Quo drummer, Jeff Rich, by Mrs Muddy

Date: 13th Dec 2022 @ 10:11am

Earlier this week, former Status Quo drummer, Jeff Rich, met with Alsager Highfield students to discuss his extraordinary success as a drummer and to teach them some drumming techniques.. His success is even more remarkable as Jeff has never had a drum lesson, learning to play at home on a biscuit tin with his mum's knitting needles. Jeff had many jobs as a youngster so that he could eventually buy his own drum kit. Jeff told the children he practised every night after school from 4pm-6pm. This made us all feel rather sorry for his neighbours, especially as he grew up in a block of flats in Hackney! During the afternoon, students were privileged to participate in a practical workshop with Jeff, who shared with them an insight into his vast experience. It was an unforgettable experience for all involved and Jeff's main message resonated with our own mission statement of 'Nurture, Believe and Achieve.'

In year 4 the children discussed the different personalities that they have, looked at organs inside the body and compared how we look after our physical body to how we look after our wellbeing. They all had well balanced debates about different topics by making sure they listened to and respected one another's opinions and discussed the ways in which we are all different by going on a trip to space.

PCSO visit, by Mrs Muddy

Date: 22nd Nov 2022 @ 6:53pm

Oli, our PCSO for Alsager, visited school today for lots of reasons but most importantly to meet the children so that they know his face and feel able to talk to him if they see him out and about. The role of the police is to keep us safe and to protect us and Oli talked to the children about this yesterday. He was made very welcome and has promised to come back and see us again.

Junior Safeguarding Team, by Mrs Muddy

Date: 22nd Nov 2022 @ 6:37pm

Yesterday PCSO, Oli, came in to school to meet with our Junior Safeguarding Team. The children explained their roles to him and he shared his with them. They asked him lots of fantastic questions about how to become a police officer, what subjects you need to study and focus on and they asked where do the police dogs sleep at night? They live with their officers which the children thought was amazing. Oli then judged the Road Safety poster competition that we launched a few weeks ago. The children shared their thoughts about the posters and Oli made the final selection. The children worked brilliantly with Oli, they listened respectfully and asked really interesting questions.
The winners of the competition were;
Ben in year 4 with first place who wins a £10 book token
Grace in year 3 with second place who wins a £5 book token.
Mrs Woollam will present the book tokens on Friday in our celebration assembly. Well done to everyone who took part, the entries were all brilliant, Oli said it was a real challenge to choose the winners!

School Council, by Mrs Muddy

Date: 22nd Nov 2022 @ 6:27pm

Yesterday our School Council met with PCSO Oli to discuss our school, Alsager and the wider world. They asked him lots of questions about his role, shared ideas to improve the policing in Alsager and listened brilliantly. Some of the ideas they shared included; more police walking around Alsager especially at the weekends when children are out and about, support with trolleys that seem to appear around Alsager abandoned, more police dogs as they would love to see police dogs in Alsager and more parking support for dangerous parking. Oli agreed to take the ideas back to his team at Congleton and to feed back to our council next term. We were really proud of the questions and ideas our children shared, they are always thoughtful and listen well.
