Bullying Prevention, by Mrs Muddy

Date: 30th Sep 2022 @ 8:05pm

As part of our ongoing work around bullying prevention and in partnership with the Diana Award and the Nationwide Building Society, we will be sharing the 2022 Big Assembly video in assembly on Tuesday to encourage young people to Stand Up to and Speak Out About Bullying. All of our children have signed the No Bystander pledge, it is in every classroom and is signed by all adults and children. We have pledged to never stand by and watch someone be unkind or bully. We discuss things we can do to challenge this if we see it and through PSHE we continue to develop our understanding of positive relationships and how we can encourage these in all aspects of our life.
Our Playground Friends in Year 5 and 6 are also our Anti Bullying Ambassadors this year, they will be undertaking training provided by the Diana Award team. We will share more information with you throughout the year. If you ever have any concerns about bullying please speak to your child's class teacher or you can contact Mrs Henshall, our Pastoral Lead, at senco@alsagerhighfields.cheshire.sch.uk .

Therapy dogs, by Mrs Muddy

Date: 30th Sep 2022 @ 8:03pm

We have been really lucky this term to welcome a mini team of therapy dogs working with some of our children at Highfields.
We have Lottie and Teddy, both cockerpoos and Nancy, a Newfoundland, Jacob, a Cocker Spaniel and Olive, a Bassett Hound. They are trained to listen to the children read, to connect on a level that often humans cannot and to provide a therapeutic time for reading and connection. We are so very lucky to have them join us and hope to work with them throughout the year.
We will share more photos as we go through the year of our children reading and connecting with them. They are bringing their own doggy reading stickers to award the children when they read to them which will go in their diaries.

School Council, by Mrs Muddy

Date: 30th Sep 2022 @ 7:59pm

Today was our first meeting for our School Council. Our children democratically elected 2 representatives from each class in year 2 through to year 6. Our children this year will be involved in shaping many decisions for our children, they will gather child voice from their classes and lead votes on important decisions. It is a very important role and they will make a real difference to our school.
Today our School Council met with our wonderful cook, Paula, who has worked at our school for a year this month! She wanted to seek their opinions on the school menu for the next half term. The children voted on their favourite meal options and their decisions were upheld. Their next step is to discuss with the children in their class further ideas for menus for the Autumn second half term. The children represented themselves brilliantly, and considered their class members thoughts and ideas and not just their own. The children also had the opportunity to ask questions to Paula about her role and the way she develops the menu for school, we discussed the importance of nutrition and also the training and experience she had to be able to do such a good job in her current role. One child, George, asked how she always made her dinners so delicious! It was a brilliant first council session and we are already planning our next one. Watch this space for further information ...

Harvest Festival, by Mrs Muddy

Date: 20th Sep 2022 @ 12:04pm

Dear Parents/Carers
We will be celebrating Harvest on Monday 3rd October with Pete Howard from the Community Church who will be leading our assembly.
Every year we ask if you are able to make any donations of tinned/packet foods, toiletries etc which our children deliver to donate on your behalf to the Alsager Food Bank. The foodbank has such an important role in supporting members of our community and are there for anyone who needs their help. The cost of living is increasing and we are very mindful of this, so if you are unable to donate this year we completely understand. Anything that anyone is able to donate will be very gratefully received.
If you are able to donate this year then please send your donations into school with your child and they will be collected in the hall until the assembly on the 3rd October.
Thank you

Year 1 Visit to the Post Office, by Mrs Muddy

Date: 20th Sep 2022 @ 9:43am

On Friday, Year 1 went to visit Alsager Post Office to post the letters that we have written. We walked really sensibly into the middle of town, crossed the road when the Green Man said we could and waited on the grass at Wesley Place until it was time to post our letters. After we'd posted our letters, we went into the Post Office to help Mr. Ellis to post his parcel and while we were in there the postman came to empty the post box so we saw him collect our letters! How lucky was that? Mrs. Lindblad asked him if he was 'The Jolly Postman' and he said that he was! This week we are going to write about our trip to the post office.

MAT Merger News Update, by Mrs Muddy

Date: 7th Sep 2022 @ 10:05am

Dear Parent / Carer

I hope you and your families enjoyed a relaxing summer break and you all feel ready for the year ahead. I just wanted to inform you that our application to merge and create ‘The Cornovii Trust’ was approved by the Department for Education on 1/9/22. We are therefore now a Multi Academy Trust of 5 schools, consisting of Alsager Highfields Primary, Alsager School, Audlem St James Church of England Primary, Brine Leas School and Weston Primary. The Headteachers, local governing bodies,  Trustees and I are all very excited by the opportunities this larger, merged Trust will bring to our young people and staff. We all firmly believe that by collaborating across 5 institutions, we will be able to make our already great schools even better for the benefit of our young people and the local communities they serve.

I look forward to working with you.

Best wishes

Richard Middlebrook

CEO The Cornovii Trust

Summer Skerratt , by Mrs Muddy

Date: 14th Jul 2022 @ 11:41am

Summer Skerratt, in year 5 pupil at Alsager Highfields, was awarded the national Primary Premier League Stars Award for meeting and exceeding the four competencies: be connected, be ambitious, be fair and be inspiring. Her amazing attitude towards sport and learning in general has been recognised with this award. Lee Bell, Assistant Manager of Crewe Alex football team and previous pupil at Alsager Highfields visited the school to present the award to Summer today. Her parents attended and everyone was so very proud that she had been recognised for her fantastic attitude. Summer is an exceptional footballer, she plays football for an Alsager team as well as playing for the Crewe Alex girls development squad. Cameron Phelps, from Crewe Alex, nominated Summer for her contribution and hard work both in school and at Crewe Alex. Cameron said, 'Summer's confidence has really grown this year and helped her to overcome her doubt in herself, she is a great team player and is starting to believe in herself which is why I really enjoy working with Alsager Highfields.'

Alsager Skateboard Park Committee, by Mrs Muddy

Date: 10th Jun 2022 @ 9:51pm

Our School Council and Junior Safeguarding Team were praised by the Alsager Skateboard Park Committee for their thoughts and designs for the new Milton Park Skateboard Park. One of our team's designs, from Lexie, Jimmy and Lance, were selected to actually be created and included in the new park design! Lexie M could not believe it when she was informed that her design for an actual ramp had been drawn out by one of the professional design teams and would be actually designed and created to be included in the park. After having a sneak peek at the first design created so far we are now looking forward to coming and cutting the ribbon when the park is completed, hopefully this will be next year!
This has been a great experience for our children to be part of a real community consultation process to help to improve our local area for our children and Paula Bancroft, from the Alsager Committee said she was blown away by our children's confidence and thoughtfulness. Mrs Howard also joined us as shje is our Safeguarding Governor and works with our Junior Safeguarding Team throughout the year.

Carers Week, by Mrs Muddy

Date: 8th Jun 2022 @ 5:49pm

Monday marked the start of Carers Week, an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges unpaid carers face, and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK. It also helps people who don't think of themselves as having caring responsibilities to identify as carers and access much-needed support. The campaign is brought to life by thousands of individuals and organisations who come together to provide support for carers, run activities, highlight the vital role carers play in our communities and draw attention to just how important caring is.

The theme for Carers Week 2022 is ‘Make caring visible, valued and supported’.

Please see the document below for more information.

Alsager MAT and Brine MAT News, by Mrs Muddy

Date: 6th Jun 2022 @ 10:49am

Dear Parent / Carer

I hope you and your families enjoyed a restful and enjoyable half term break. Just before we broke up, I received a letter from the Department for Education, which confirmed that our application to merge Alsager MAT and Brine MAT had been approved. This is great news and means we will be able to further improve our 5 schools through increased collaboration, shared resources, which in turn will support our young people and increase opportunities for staff. We are hoping this merger will be completed by 1/9/22, when we will be known as The Cornovii Trust. ‘Cornovii’ was the name given to the inhabitants of Cheshire, Shropshire and Staffordshire in ancient times and this is what our Trust of local schools will always be; for the benefit of the young people and families in these three counties.

Please remember, all five schools will retain their individual identities and will be led by their respective Headteachers and Governing Boards. We will operate very much as a family not a chain, in which every school and every child is of equal importance.

I will of course keep you updated on any developments.

Many thanks for your support with this and exciting times lie ahead for us all.

Best wishes

Richard Middlebrook – CEO Alsager MAT (Alsager Highfields Primary School, Alsager School and Weston Primary School)

Interim CEO Brine MAT (Audlem St James C of E Primary School and Brine Leas School)

Date: 26th May 2022 @ 10:24pm

We have had an amazing second day on the residential today. We've been across the Mersey, been on the open top bus tour and visited several museums. Topped off by great Italian food and a game of bingo.
The children were super sensible walking around Liverpool and all the staff are incredibly proud of each and every pupil.

Loneliness Support, by Mrs Muddy

Date: 22nd May 2022 @ 11:45am

Loneliness is something we can all feel sometimes. By supporting our children to have strategies to recognise their emotions, talk about them and developing skills to make and sustain friendships we are preparing them for an emotionally healthy future.
Our playground friends are trained as ‘loneliness lifeguards’ we meet fortnightly to discuss strategies we’ve used to support children and role play to develop our skills further. Our year 5 and 6 undertook mental health training earlier in the year. Our assemblies explore and support relationships and emotional health along with our pshe curriculum using the fantastic resources from SCARF. Year 5 are also taking part in some activities around positive relationships.
Across the school we work with family ties who provide group support for self esteem and friendship skills and we have Sara Leopold, who is ELSA trained who also works with children on a 1-1 and small groups for two afternoons a week.
Mrs Henshall is currently undertaking the DFE Senior Mental Health Leader qualification.  We have a section on our website with information and links about supporting children with their emotional mental health.  If you have any concerns about your child please email senco@alsagerhighfields.cheshire.sch.uk

Discover a family app to support wellbeing and mental health

Ollee is a digital friend for children aged 8-11 – created by Parent Zone and funded by BBC Children in Need’s A Million & Me initiative.

It helps children explore feelings around school, family, friends, the world, and more – and lets them share the advice with a parent or trusted adult.

Ollee listens to how children are feeling and then offers support and ideas about what to do. Even if they’re not sure, Ollee helps them figure it out.

English Writing, by Mrs Muddy

Date: 20th May 2022 @ 6:49pm

As part of our English writing, some children wrote letters to the author of our class reader The Blue Whale by ‘Nicola Davies’. Yesterday we received a reply and it was brilliant. She had sent all of the children bookmarks and the two boys that had written to her received her latest book. They are obviously really excited to start them. Well done to Abe and Charlie.
