Miss Cooper - Year 1 2025 - 2026
Miss Cooper
Mrs Millichap
Welcome to Year 1! I hope you all had a lovely summer and are looking forward to the new school year ahead! On this page, you will find what we will be learning about in the Autumn 1 half term, homework and general information.
English
The book we will be reading this half term is Goldilocks and the Three Bears. The children will be learning what a sentence is and how to apply capital letters and full stops to their writing.
Maths
In maths, we will follow the Maths - No Problem! scheme (MNP). This half term our focus will be numbers 10, number bonds within 10 and ddition and subraction within 10.
On Fridays, Mrs Millichap will be covering the topic of positions.
Science
This half term's topic is materials, as well as the topic of seasonal changes, which will be covered throughout the year.
Phonics
In phonics, we will follow the Read Write Inc. scheme and phonics lessons are taught daily in smaller groups. The children will be assessed regularly to ensure that they are in the correct phonics groups and that their reading is in line with their phonics progression.
PE
PE will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays, in the afternoons this half term. Your child will need to come to school in their full PE kit. PE will take place outside, so please ensure your child is dressed in the appropriate PE for the weather.
Music, RE, PSHE, and Computing will be taught throughout the year, as well as Art and Geography this half term (swapping to Design and Technology and History next half term).
Homework
Please read with your child at least 4 times a week and sign their reading diary to say you have read with them. I appreciate your support with this.
Snacks/Water
If you wish to pack your child a snack for break time, please ensure that it is something healthy, such as fruit. There is fruit available each day for your child to have. Please provide your child with a water bottle each day, which must only contain water, not juice.
General Information
Please ensure that ALL of your child's belongings are clearly labelled. This will help us to return any belongings to your child, should they get lost.
Seesaw will be used, and any messages or information you should know will be posted on there. Should you have any questions, please feel free to message me via Seesaw.
