Year 1 - Miss Cooper 2025 - 2026
Miss Cooper
Mrs Millichap

Welcome to Year 1B's class page! I hope you have all had a wonderful but restful May half-term. On this page, you will find information about what we are going to be learning about in the final half term of year 1, homework, general information and any dates you need to know. As this half term is the final one in year 1, it is a busy one, but I have lots of exciting things planned!
Please ensure your child arrives promptly at school to avoid learning being missed. Arriving promptly ensures your child settles into a routine, creating a calm start to the school day. Our school day starts at 8:45am and finishes at 3.15pm.
English
The book we will be exploring this half term is The Day the Crayons Quit by Drew Daywalt. The children will continue to work on their handwriting, secure their knowledge of what a sentence is and how to apply capital letters, finger spaces and full stops to their writing. Alongside the book, the children will explore a variety of non-fiction books and write a set of instructions.

Maths
In maths, we will follow the Maths - No Problem! scheme (MNP). This half term, we will be recapping various topics that have already been covered throughout the year. This is to consolidate the children's knowledge and to ensure they are fully prepared as they transition into Year 2.
Science
This half term's topic is animals, including humans (specifically exploring animals), as well as the topic of seasonal changes, which will be covered throughout the year.
Phonics
In phonics, we follow the Read Write Inc. scheme, and phonics lessons are taught daily in smaller groups. The children will be assessed regularly to ensure that they are in the correct phonics groups and that their reading is in line with their phonics progression. It is important and within the school policy that you listen to your child read at least 4 times a week, doing this will support their phonics.

PE
PE will take place on Thursdays and Fridays, in the afternoons, this half term. Your child will need to come to school in their full PE kit. PE will take place outside, so please ensure your child is dressed in the appropriate PE kit for the weather.
Music, RE, PSHE, and Computing will be taught throughout the year, as well as Design and Technology and History, this half term.

Homework
Please read with your child at least 4 times a week and sign their reading diary to say you have read with them. It is the school's policy that you listen to your child read at least 4 times a week.
Doodle as often as possible to support your child with maths. Please write in your child's reading diary to say they have accessed Doodle.
I appreciate your support with this.

Snacks/Water
If you wish to pack your child a snack for break time, please ensure that it is something healthy, such as fruit. There is fruit available each day for your child to have. Please also provide your child with a water bottle each day, which must only contain water, not juice.
General Information
Please ensure that ALL of your child's belongings are clearly labelled. This will help us to return any belongings to your child, should they get lost.
Seesaw will be used, and any messages or information you should know will be posted on there. Should you have any questions, please feel free to message me via Seesaw.
