Year 1 - Miss Cooper 2026 - 2027
Miss Cooper

Welcome to Year 1's class page. I hope you have all had a wonderful but restful Summer break. I can not wait to welcome your children back to school in September as they begin their journey in Year 1; it's going to be busy, but I have lots of exciting things planned!
On this page, you will find information about what we are going to be learning about in the Autumn 1 half term, homework, general information and any dates you need to know.
Please ensure your child arrives promptly at school to avoid learning being missed. Arriving promptly ensures your child settles into a routine, creating a calm start to the school day. Our school day starts at 8:45 am and finishes at 3.15 pm.
English
The books we will be exploring this half term in English are The Pig in the Pond by Martin Waddell and Goldilocks and the Three Bears. The children will work on their handwriting and how to apply capital letters, finger spaces and full stops to their writing.

Maths
In maths, we will follow the Maths - No Problem! scheme (MNP). This half term, the children will be securing their knowledge of numbers to 10. The children will learn how to order, write and compare numbers within 10.
Science
This half term's topic is Materials, as well as the topic of seasonal changes, which will be covered throughout the year. A trip to a Science Museum will take place to support the children's learning of materials.
Phonics
In phonics, we follow the Read Write Inc. scheme, and phonics lessons are taught daily in smaller groups. The children will be assessed every half term to ensure that they are in the correct phonics groups and that their reading is in line with their phonics progression. It is important and within the school policy that you listen to your child read at least 4 times a week, doing this will support their phonics development.

PE
PE will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays, in the afternoons, this half term. Your child will need to come to school in their full PE kit. PE will take place outside, so please ensure your child is dressed in the appropriate PE kit for the weather.
Music, RE, PSHE, and Computing will be taught throughout the year, as well as Art and Geography, this half term, swapping to Design and Technology and History after the October half-term break.

Homework
Please read with your child at least 4 times a week and sign their reading diary to say you have read with them. It is the school's policy that you listen to your child read at least 4 times a week.
Doodle as often as possible to support your child with maths. Please write in your child's reading diary to say they have accessed Doodle.
I appreciate your support with this.

Snacks/Water
If you wish to pack your child a snack for break time, please ensure that it is something healthy, such as fruit. There is fruit available each day for your child to have. Please also provide your child with a water bottle each day, which must only contain water.
General Information
Please ensure that ALL of your child's belongings are clearly labelled. This will help us to return any belongings to your child, should they get lost.
Seesaw will be used, and any messages or information you should know will be posted on there. Should you have any questions, please feel free to catch me at the door or message me via Seesaw.
