Year 1 - Miss Cooper 2025 - 2026
Miss Cooper
Mrs Millichap
Welcome to Year 1! I hope you all had a lovely summer and are looking forward to the new school year ahead! On this page, you will find information of what we are learning about in the Autumn 1 half term, homework, general information and dates you need to know.
English
The book we will be reading for the rest of this half term is 'The Pig in The Pond'. The children will continue to work on their handwriting, learn what a sentence is and how to apply capital letters and full stops to their writing.
Maths
In maths, we will follow the Maths - No Problem! scheme (MNP). This half term, our focus will be on numbers to 10, number bonds within 10, and addition and subtraction within 10.
On Fridays, Mrs Millichap will be covering the topic of shape.
Science
This half term's topic is materials, as well as the topic of seasonal changes, which will be covered throughout the year.
Phonics
In phonics, we follow the Read Write Inc. scheme, and phonics lessons are taught daily in smaller groups. The children will be assessed regularly to ensure that they are in the correct phonics groups and that their reading is in line with their phonics progression.
PE
PE will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays, in the afternoons this half term. Your child will need to come to school in their full PE kit. PE will take place outside, so please ensure your child is dressed in the appropriate PE kit for the weather.
Music, RE, PSHE, and Computing will be taught throughout the year, as well as Art and Geography this half term (swapping to Design and Technology and History next half term).
Homework
Please read with your child at least 4 times a week and sign their reading diary to say you have read with them.
Doodle as often as possible to support your child with maths. Please write in your child's reading diary to say they have accessed Doodle.
I appreciate your support with this.
Snacks/Water
If you wish to pack your child a snack for break time, please ensure that it is something healthy, such as fruit. There is fruit available each day for your child to have. Please also provide your child with a water bottle each day, which must only contain water, not juice.
General Information
Please ensure that ALL of your child's belongings are clearly labelled. This will help us to return any belongings to your child, should they get lost.
Seesaw will be used, and any messages or information you should know will be posted on there. Should you have any questions, please feel free to message me via Seesaw.
