Welcome to Year 1.png

Welcome to Year 1B's class page! I hope you have all had a restful half term. On this page, you will find information about what we are going to be learning about in the Spring 2 half term, homework, general information and any dates you need to know. This half term is a short one but full of exciting things!

Please ensure your child arrives promptly at school to avoid learning being missed. Arriving promptly ensures your child settles into a routine, creating a calm start to the school day. Our school day starts at 8:45am and finishes at 3.15pm.

English

The book we will be exploring this half term is Beegu by Alexis Deacon. The children will continue to work on their handwriting, secure their knowledge of what a sentence is and how to apply capital letters, finger spaces and full stops to their writing. Alongside this, we will also be exploring Grammarsaurus to support the children with their English learning.

Maths

In maths, we will follow the Maths - No Problem! scheme (MNP). This half term, our focus will be on numbers to 100, where the children will learn how to identify the tens and ones, number patterns and compare numbers.

On Fridays, Mrs Millichap will be covering the topic of fractions.

Science

This half term's topic is animals, including humans (specifically exploring humans), as well as the topic of seasonal changes, which will be covered throughout the year.

Phonics

In phonics, we follow the Read Write Inc. scheme, and phonics lessons are taught daily in smaller groups. The children will be assessed regularly to ensure that they are in the correct phonics groups and that their reading is in line with their phonics progression. It is important and within the school policy that you listen to your child read at least 4 times a week, doing this will support their phonics.

PE

PE will take place on Thursdays and Fridays, in the afternoons this half term. Your child will need to come to school in their full PE kit. PE will take place outside, so please ensure your child is dressed in the appropriate PE kit for the weather.

Music, RE, PSHE, and Computing will be taught throughout the year, as well as Design and Technology and History this half term (swapping to Art and Geography after the Easter break).

Doodle as often as possible to support your child with maths. Please write in your child's reading diary to say they have accessed Doodle.

I appreciate your support with this.

Snacks/Water

If you wish to pack your child a snack for break time, please ensure that it is something healthy, such as fruit. There is fruit available each day for your child to have. Please also provide your child with a water bottle each day, which must only contain water, not juice

General Information

Please ensure that ALL of your child's belongings are clearly labelled. This will help us to return any belongings to your child, should they get lost.

Seesaw will be used, and any messages or information you should know will be posted on there. Should you have any questions, please feel free to message me via Seesaw.
