Welcome to Year 1B's class page! On this page you will find information of what we are learning about in the Autumn 2 half term, homework, general information and dates you need to know. I have lots of fun things planned for this half term and with the run up to Christmas, this is a very busy but exciting half term for the children.

Please ensure your child arrives promtly at school to avoid learning being missed. Arriving promtly ensures your child settles into a routine creating a calm start to the school day. Our school day starts at 8:45am and finishes at 3.15pm.

English

The book we will be exploring this half term is A Squash and a Squeeze by Julia Donaldson. The children will continue to work on their handwriting, learn what a sentence is and how to apply capital letters, finger spaces and full stops to their writing.

Maths

In maths, we will follow the Maths - No Problem! scheme (MNP). This half term, our focus will be on numbers to 20 and addition and subtraction within 20.

On Fridays, Mrs Millichap will be covering the topic of height and length.

Science

This half term's topic is materials, as well as the topic of seasonal changes, which will be covered throughout the year. Our class trip along side Year 1A to Xplore Science Museum will support and enrich the children's learning on materials.

Phonics

In phonics, we follow the Read Write Inc. scheme, and phonics lessons are taught daily in smaller groups. The children will be assessed regularly to ensure that they are in the correct phonics groups and that their reading is in line with their phonics progression. It is important and within the school policy that you listen to your child read at least 4 times a week, doing this will support their phonics.

PE

PE will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays, in the afternoons this half term. Your child will need to come to school in their full PE kit. PE will take place outside, so please ensure your child is dressed in the appropriate PE kit for the weather.

Music, RE, PSHE, and Computing will be taught throughout the year, as well as Design and Technology and History this half term (swapping to Art and Geography after Chirstmas).

Homework

Please read with your child at least 4 times a week and sign their reading diary to say you have read with them. It is the school's policy that you listen to your child read at least 4 times a week.

Doodle as often as possible to support your child with maths. Please write in your child's reading diary to say they have accessed Doodle.

I appreciate your support with this.

Snacks/Water

If you wish to pack your child a snack for break time, please ensure that it is something healthy, such as fruit. There is fruit available each day for your child to have. Please also provide your child with a water bottle each day, which must only contain water, not juice

General Information

Please ensure that ALL of your child's belongings are clearly labelled. This will help us to return any belongings to your child, should they get lost.

Seesaw will be used, and any messages or information you should know will be posted on there. Should you have any questions, please feel free to message me via Seesaw.
