Mrs Lindblad
Reception
Welcome to our Class Page

Hello Everyone and WELCOME TO RECEPTION!
We hope that you had a great Easter holiday and you are ready for the Summer Term at school. I am so proud of what every child has achieved so far this year and I am looking forward to fun packed final term that prepares each child for their transition into year 1.
Being in Reception is the most wonderful adventure where the children play and learn new skills everyday. By the end of the year they will be able to do so many amazing things. They will have explored the world around them and most importantly, had so much fun!
On this webpage you will find important information about the school day and week. Please have a read through and make sure you check it regularly for any changes.
I will also use Seesaw to communicate important infomation to you and you can also contact me via Seesaw if you have any questions.
Further down this page you will find a weekly learning journey to let you know what we will be covering each week in phonics, literacy and maths. I hope this will enable you to support your child where possible and talk to them about what they have been learning in class.
Our School Day
Our school day will start 8.50am and end at 3.10pm. I will come out and meet the children at the gate at 8,45am and should you wish to speak to me please feel free to catch me either at the start or the end of the day. Children will leave from the same gate at the end of the day.
Our learning this term
We have lots of exciting things planned this term and I hope that your child will come home each day feeling excited about their day.
Our topic for this half term is 'Growth and Change' and we will be reading lots of stories based on this theme across the curriculum.
We have assessed all of the children again in phonics so many of the children will be in different groups this half term. Some will be going across to the main school so that they can join some of the Year 1 children for their phonics lesson. The children have all the set 1 sounds in their reading pack so please continue practise these at home daily, in order for them to be able to read these speedily. Please also practise making and reading cvc words with your child using the sound cards. Children will also be bringing home blending books, ditty sheets and/or coloured reading books so please also practise these daily as they all encourage fluency in reading which is a crucial reading skill that we foster at Highfields. Playing 'I Spy' and sounding out words is also really beneficial for your child's phonic knowledge.
In Literacy, we have 'Drawing Club'.This programme is great for getting children excited about stories, vocabulary, mark making, letter formation and writing. We love our 'Drawing Club' sessions each day and I have been really impressed with how all of the children's writing skills have developed already.
In maths this half term we will be learning about counting on to add, counting forwards and backwards, counting to 20, doubling, halving and sharing, odds and evens. I will go into more detail each week and would appreciate you practising the skills at home too.
Summer dates for your Diary
Friday 3rd June pm - Highfields Music Festival
Tuesday 9th June pm - Reception and Preschool Sports Day
PE
This year we will have two P.E. lessons a week. This term they will take place on a Tuesday afternoon and a Thursday morning. We would like the children to come dressed for P.E. on these 2 days so that we won't have to worry about getting changed. Please be aware that most lessons will take place outside so we would appreciate it if the children could be wearing their school track suit over their shorts and T shirt so that we are prepared for all weather. Children will also need a water bottle for P.E. lessons as they always get very thirsty.
Snacks:
We will provide daily fruit or vegetables to every child in Reception so they do not need to bring in any additional snack.

Water Bottles:
Please make sure that your child comes to school each day with a named water bottle that contains water only. We encourage children to drink water regularly.
Clothing:
At Highfields we encourage outdoor play and except in extreme conditions, the children will play outside everyday. I would therefore like to encourage you to provide your children with waterproof coats/ trousers/ playsuits, hats and gloves that can be used at playtime alongside a pair of wellies. We will encourage and help the children to get changed before and after play. If you would also like to provide a pair of slippers then these can also be worn when inside. I would also appreciate it if children could have a spare change of clothes in their bags in case they do, for any reason, get wet.
Homework:
- Phonics cards daily
- Phonics handwriting sheet daily
- Reading daily

Reading:
As a school will place a high emphasis on teaching children to read and we are passionate about fostering a love of reading and books. I intend to read at least 3 books a day to the class and your child will read daily to an adult during their phonics lesson. They will have additional reads where time allows. We ask you to please read to your child at bedtime (or any other convenient time) daily as this will have a huge impact on their reading progress, their vocabulary and all areas of their learning. Please also write a short comment in your child's reading diary to say what you have read and how thet have done with their phonics activities. Once children progress to Ditty Sheets and reading books we would like to see every child reading at least 4 times a week minimum at home.

Here is our LEARNING JOURNEY for this week!
Week beginning Monday 27th April
Phonics
We will continue to practise the sounds that we have learned so far, orally blend them and read cvc words that contain them. Some children will be moving onto set 2 sounds and set 3 sounds this term.
Drawing Club
This week's drawing club will be based around the story 'Chicken Licken'
Maths:
We will practise counting to 20 and back and will continue to practise writing our numbers to 20. We will be focussing on counting forwards and backwards and will consolidate our knowledge of one more and one less.
Best Wishes
Kathryn Lindblad
