Year 1 - Miss Burke 2025 - 2026
Ms Burke
This is our Year 1 page.
Welcome to Year 1! I am so excited to have you with us this year. It is going to be a wonderful journey filled with learning, fun and new adventures. I cannot wait to see all the amazing things you will discover and achieve.
Below there is some helpful information to let you know what we will be covering this term. Please read through this information and if you have any questions please let me know by sending me a message on Seesaw.
Just a reminder that our school day begins at 8.45am and finishes at 3.15pm. Arriving on time is really important as it helps your child start the day calmy, settle into a routine and make the most of their leaning right from the beginning.
English
This term in English, we will be exploring Goldilocks and the Three Bears and The Pig in the Pond. We will use these texts to support our writing. Our main focus this term will be on building simple sentences using capital letters, full stops, and finger spaces. We will begin each lesson with letter formation to support neat and accurate handwriting.
Maths
In Maths, we will be following the Maths-No Problem! scheme, with focus on numbers to 10, including number bonds, addition and subtraction. We will also be working hard on developing accurate number formation.
PE
PE will take place on Wednesday and Friday afternoons this term. Please ensure that your child comes into school wearing their full PE kit, clearly labelled, on these days.
Mr Hocknell will be teaching PE on a Friday afternoons.
Phonics and Reading
Phonics is taught daily in small groups to ensure that all children receive the right level of support and challenge. Children are assessed regularly to make sure they are in the correct phonics group and that their reading books are closely matched to their phonics knowledge. We strongly encourage you to read with your child daily or at least 4 times a week, as research shows that daily reading has a significant positive impact on progress. Please also remember to record your child’s reading in their reading diary so we can celebrate their efforts in school.
Homework
For homework, we encourage children to log in to Doodle Maths regularly to support their maths learning and to read daily at home. Please continue to record their reading in their reading diary. Additional homework activities will be set soon on Seesaw, so please keep an eye out for updates.
Dates for your diary
Tuesday 18th November: Class trip to Xplore which will be linked to our science unit on Materials.
Many thanks for your continued support in helping your child in their learning journey!
