Miss Worrall

Welcome to Miss Worrall's Class

Year 6

Spring term 2023

Welcome to Year 6.

This year is a very busy and important year, as we will be working extremely hard preparing for our Year 6 SATs in May. Although we will be working very hard for our SATs, we will also be having great fun along the way and we have lots of exciting work planned.

At the heart of everything we do, will be to make your last year at Highfields a memorable one!

So what have we got in store for you for the spring term?

You can see an overview of the year in our Annual Curriculum Planner. There will be an update here each week to show what is planned for the week ahead.

This Week's Learning Journey

Date: Week Beginning 27 March 2023

This week, we will be learning about:

English:

We will be writing a non-chronological report.

Reading:

Guided reading will continue this half term.  We will be focusing on explaining our thoughts and ideas about a text using evidence from what we have read, as well as honing our accurate retrieval skills.

As part of our SATs preparation, we will be having regular practice with past papers.  This is purely to give the children the opportunity to become familiar with the timings of a written test and to remove the fear of not being able to complete the test in the time allowed.  We will work on small parts of a test at a time and will discuss lots of strategies and techniques which can be applied.

There will continue to be ample time for indiviudal reading for ERIC as well.

Please ensure that your child is reading at least 4 times per week at home. Please fill in and sign the reading diary.

Let's see how many more Reading Millionaires we can have in our class.

Maths:

We will be working from Maths No Problem with additional resources and activities from other sources to support learning towards completiing the curriculum and preparing for SATs.

The focus this week will be on line graphs and statistics.

We will continue to practise our arithmetic skills each day.

The topic this half term is animals including humans with a focus on the human circulatory system.

Reading Record Diary

Year 6 children are encouraged to read independently at least four times per week.  Please sign their diary each time they read.  I am encouraing the children to add some comments into their reading diary so that we can talk about what is happening or how they are feeing about the book.  It is important that children develop stamina for reading and so I would recommend that most children should be reading for around 20 minutes at a time.

PE Kit

Could we please remind you that PE kit is: a top in their house team colour; bottle green shorts or skort; and trainers. If the weather is cold, please wear green jogging bottoms (with school logo).

PPA Activity

Our PPA activity this year is on Wednesday afternoon.

Please ensure your child brings their water bottle to school everyday and that it is clearly labelled with their name.Water bottles need to be returned home and washed each night.

If you need to ask me anything or have any problems, I am always available before and after school. Please do not hesitate to contact me. Please email admin@alsagerhighfields.cheshire.sch.uk
